ЗБИРКА КЊИГА (РАРИТЕТИ)

COLLECTION OF OLD AND RARE BOOKS

The collection is established to collect and preserve the most valuable written documents, which refer to Serbian cultural space. Although it is relatively more recent and small in number, the collection comprises very rare and valuable written records of Serbian literature, science, etc.

Among the most valuable and important copies are Bozidar Vukovic’s Praznicni minej (Venice 1538, partially preserved), well preserved church editions of Serbian books from the 18th century printed in Rimnik, as well as many rare books of prominent and authoritative authors from 18th and 19th centuries, printed in printing shops in Venice, Vienna, Buda, St. Petersburg, Hamburg and other centers which used to be little colonies of Serbian culture.

Despite the fact that all editions published in the period from invention of the press to 1867 are considered literature rarities, there are no limitations to consider rarities issues printed after that year, particularly those which were devastated or prohibited.
