Collection of Flags
The basis
of the collection consists of the flags, which the National Museum of
Belgrade and Military Museum gave to the newly established Museum of the First
Serbian Uprising. At the same time, these flags are considered the oldest
pieces of the collection, later expanded by objects purchased from or
donated by various individuals.

|
The most important part of the collection includes the flags
from the First Serbian Uprising. Although numerous flags appeared during
the Uprising, only few were preserved, nine of which in the Historical
Museum in Serbia, ranging from personal, via regular insurgent army’s from
1809 to those belonged to the voivodes, from 1811.

Dating from the 20th and early 21st century, the rest of the
collection covers different state and parties’ flags from the post war
period as well as those of numerous societies and associations, sport
organizations, factories and companies, etc.

A
separate part of the collection refers to voluntary masses performed after
the Second World War in the process of reconstruction of the country and contains
over 40 flags, pennants and bands of numerous youth brigades.
The
appearance of different parties’ flags was one of the characteristics of
the events of the last decade of the 20th century, marked by numerous
manifestations, demonstrations and rallies. Following the course of the
country’s history, the Museum acquired 12 of such flags in order to
preserve them and use them in future presentations of the period when
multi-party system was established in Serbia.
